Cannabis for Hashimoto’s Disease

Hashimoto’s disease is an autoimmune disorder where your immune system attacks the thyroid gland – a small gland at the base of your neck below your Adam’s apple. As the thyroid gland is a part of your endocrine system, it is responsible for producing many of the hormones that regulate and coordinate many of the human body’s main functions.

When it comes to autoimmune disorders generally, cannabis and cannabinoids seem to be particularly effective. This is because cannabinoids have immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties that help control cytokine production. There is some limited evidence supporting the use of cannabidiol (CBD) to reduce chronic inflammation associated with thyroid disorders like Hashimoto’s disease and Grave’s disease.
